A narration of the events leading up to the highly anticipated, baptism of Tyler:

It all started last week at Zone conference when we were taught how to plan a memorable, spiritual, baptismal service. They stressed the importance of making the baptism a special day with musical numbers, powerful talks, and zero hiccups. Please keep this in mind as I unfold the events of Tyler Jackson's baptism.

Prior to Tyler's baptism we called our district leaders twice, reminding them to fill the font, they were going to be at church that morning for an activity, and they happily agreed. We even sent a text the morning of to make sure everything was set. They accepted this crucial task.

We had been helping at a stake primary activity, when our zone leader looked at us and said "you're filling the font, right?" and without hesitation I smiled, insulted he would ask such a preposterous question. "Pfff, are we filling the font. Of course, we are! Right Elder Herrera?? :)"

Elder Herrera's face went from his creamy mexican color to a pale, the complexion of sour cream. Fear, horror, and panic overcame him at the fear of my wrath, and he cupped his hands to his face. He sprinted to the font and started turning on the water.

Ladies and Gentleman, the baptism was in an HOUR AND A HALF. It takes 4 HOURS TO FILL THE FONT.

Like firefighters, the gang of missionaries starts sprinting. We're grabbing humongous soup pots from the kitchen, filling up at every faucet in the whole stake center.

when u r literally filling the font with buckets

From faucet to font, faucet to font, we run in our suits and dresses. Of course, there is an activity going on at this time, and young curious primary eyes are staring at us being crazy. We were in the cleaning closet, the kitchen, and even in the washroom (I know what you're thinking, we only used only tap water, not toilet water!!).

in case one font-filling pic wasnt enough.........

Backs were sore, pipes were burst, shoes were dampened, water was dispersed on the carpets, but ALAS, the font was filled, and the crisis was averted. This description is honestly an understatement of how ridiculous this situation was.

As usual, tons of other things went wrong... pianists didn't show, speakers didn't prepare talks, and I was left to go and wing a talk on baptism. BUT, ya wanna know what went right??? Tyler was baptized. And he was beaming. He couldn't stop smiling!

Tyler was soooo pumped to get baptized!

There is no greater spirit and joy you feel than seeing a humble child of God, enter the waters of baptism! Amidst unorganized chaos that makes you want to cringe just reading this email-- there was joy! What a pleasure it is to be a missionary!!!!! Such a HAPPY DAY!
